The Government of Barbados has been actively addressing the challenges faced by persons with special needs.
Recognising that the government alone cannot tackle these issues, the St. Michael Parish Independence Committee embraced the mandate to support this cause. Over the past year, we have visited special needs schools, listened to their concerns, and adopted the Lifelong Skill Training LLC as our flagship project.
Through this partnership, we have hosted a series of events designed to promote inclusion and foster understanding.
Our first major event was a fine dining three-course lunch for 65 individuals with special needs at Lifelong. For this occasion, we collaborated with some of Barbados’ top chefs to create an unforgettable experience. Additionally, at the recent Spirit of the Nation Show, we made history by inviting over 100 individuals with special needs to witness our Parish Ambassadors highlighting the challenges faced by persons with disabilities, bringing much-needed attention to their struggles and triumphs.
In Barbados, many people have never had the opportunity to interact with individuals with special needs. We are on a mission to change that and to foster understanding, create welcoming environments, and advocate for greater accessibility. Too often, persons with disabilities feel excluded or encounter barriers that limit their participation in society.
Join us on this transformative journey as we work to build a more inclusive Barbados. Together, we can break down barriers, challenge stigmas, and create a community where everyone is valued and empowered to thrive.
Follow us as we continue to champion accessibility, inclusion, and equality for all. Let us make a difference, one step at a time!
We have already decided what our 2025 project will be! It will the first of its kind in Barbados and we are requesting financial support from corporate Barbados to continue our work in the community.
